When it’s time to hire a roofing contractor, most people will search for a contractor

online and read the customer reviews.

Once they’ve narrowed down their list of prospects, they’ll ask the obvious questions: How much will it cost? How long will it take? Are you licensed and insured? Can you provide references?

But there are a host of less obvious questions you should always ask before you sign a contract:

1.      How long have you been doing this?

Experience matters. When choosing between contractors, choose the one with the most experience if all other variables are the same. We’ve been installing and repairing roofs for more than 20 years. We know what we’re doing.

2.      Do you offer a warranty on your workmanship?

Manufacturers typically offer warranties on the materials used for your roof, but you must also ensure the installation work is under warranty, too. All work is inspected and we offer a warranty on our work as well.

3.      Do you have experience with special roofing features like skylights, chimneys or

solar panels?

There are nuances to properly installing a roof with these features. If flashing and shields aren’t perfectly installed, rain and melting snow can seep directly into your home. This trapped moisture can lead to mold, structural rot, and ceiling joist decay, making the roof unsafe.

In addition, gaps or poor insulation around a skylight seal can cause significant heat and cooling loss, which will force your HVAC system to work much harder than it should, increasing your energy costs. Again, experience matters!

4.      What permits are required for your roofing project, and who is responsible for obtaining them?

Dealing with local government agencies can be time-consuming and frustrating, but failing to obtain the proper permits can result in stop-work orders, fines, and difficulties selling your home.

We’ll obtain the necessary permits for you and ensure your roof meets all building code regulations.

5.      What safety precautions and protocols do you follow to protect my family during the project?

At Fast Roofing Solutions, safety is just as important to us as quality. We use a magnetic sweeper to collect nails, so you won’t have to worry about your children stepping on them or being exposed to other potential hazards. We are OSHA compliant, and we take every precaution to protect our workers and your family.

Asking these questions upfront will help you select a contractor who will install a durable, high-quality roof that protects your home while enhancing its value.
